In the 1960s, Virgie Hortenstine came from Ohio to Haywood County to assist sharecroppers who were registering to vote, many of whom were evicted from their homes for doing so. In this clip, John Ashworth shares Hortenstine’s letter of introduction as well as information about the Haywood-Fayette Newsletter she helped produce.
